Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Metro Vanpool?

This is a program offered by LA Metro which provides a $600 monthly subsidy to reduce the cost of a vanpooling lease. Participants choose one of three approved vendors to obtain a lease for a vehicle. Participants of the program form their vanpool group, decide on pick up and drop off points, and driver responsibilities. Participants must then enroll in the Metro Vanpool Program and agree to submit monthly reports to be eligible for the subsidy.

How does the program work?

Participants of the program receive up to $600 per month to reduce the cost of their lease as long as they submit accurate and timely monthly reports and meet other eligibility criteria.

What is the eligibility for the program?

To be eligible, vanpools must have a destination point in Los Angeles County. In addition, there are minimum requirements for days of travel and number of passengers. Interested participants should submit a pre-qualification form to find out more.

How do I get started?

Starting a new vanpool or joining an existing vanpool is easy! If you are new to vanpooling, you will first need to obtain a vehicle from one of the three approved leasing vendors. You will then be required to submit a pre-qualification form to check for eligibility and to enroll in the Metro Vanpool Program. If you are looking to join an existing vanpool, create an account and find an open seat at ridematch.info.

How do I get the subsidy?

The monthly subsidy is offered to vanpools enrolled in the Metro Vanpool Program when monthly reports are submitted on time. If reports are not submitted, vanpools will not receive the monthly subsidy, could get terminated from the program, and may be expected to pay the full cost of their lease.

Why do I need a vehicle from a leasing vendor?

Approved leasing vendors provide the vehicles for the Metro Vanpool Program, since Metro does not own vans for this program. Leasing vendors offer a variety of vehicle types to meet the needs of participants. In addition to supplying vehicles for your commute, they also offer other benefits such as regular maintenance, roadside assistance, ADA accessibility, and competitive insurance rates.

How do I know if I am eligible for a bonus?

First time vanpoolers receive a one-time $200 additional subsidy for their first month. In addition, vanpools that maintain a 70% occupancy level are eligible to receive an additional $100 subsidy for every month the occupancy is maintained. Click here for more information.
